Granted, Devil May Cry 5 doesn’t like your typical entry in the series at first glance. It’s also symbolic how it decided to bring back the confident and brash iteration of Dante's merry posse, almost as if it’s signaling that the old Capcom has finally returned once again. Given its success in recent years, it’s only fitting that the latest entry in Capcom’s library is another beloved and time-tested property. Admittedly, Dragon’s Dogma was a blast but that game and Monster Hunter seemed more like the exceptions than the rule at the time. Even the decision to abandon the admittedly rough yet promising foundation set by Lost Planet 2 - a game I considered terribly underrated - and outsource Lost Planet 3 was something I found saddening. The decision to cancel Mega Man Legends 3, for example, was quite saddening, given how much I adored the first two games as well as The Misadventures of Tron Bonne.
